Mary Brettmann CPA

Mary BrettmannMy life was changed forever when Surly Brewing called in November of 2011. They wanted to install QuickBooks Point of Sale. After a successful install, I stuck around to answer questions once in a while. Like Eldon the painter, there is plenty of work to be done and I found more and more rooms to paint. Everything changed with the passage of the “Surly Bill” (allowing for taprooms in Minnesota).  All of a sudden, I needed to prepare for a 250,000 BBL production brewery, a 300-seat beer hall, a 178-seat event center and a 500 seat beer garden. It was a massive undertaking, but I loved every minute of it. With the successful opening of the Destination Brewery in December 2014, my work was done. Now, I am setting out to teach the industry what I've learned and to help people get to the next level in their journey. And so Beverage Business Builders was born.

By combining corporate best practices with entrepreneurial spirit, I'm able to come up with efficient, profitable solutions for my clients and guide their decisions with practical advice and clear financial metrics.

I graduated from Carleton College in Minnesota, and I hold an active CPA license in Minnesota and California. I have 25+ years of experience in the corporate world. In prior lives, I have been a state auditor, a sales controller, an international treasury professional, a business owner and finally a craft brewing CFO for a fast growing regional craft brewery. I call Minnesota home, but have clients all throughout the country. I enjoy digging in and creating change with every client.

Tomi Winters

TomiMany years ago in a galaxy far, far away, Tomi managed a political campaign for Mary’s mother and babysat Mary and her sisters while the candidate went door to door in suburban Minnesota. The two have been friends ever since.

When Mary decided to open a practice back in Minnesota, it was only natural that she stay in Tomi’s home while trying to get the fledgling business off the ground. Within a year or so, it became clear that there was good business “back at home” and that Tomi could help it grow. In January of this year, she officially joined the business as a sales manager.

Tomi graduated from North Texas State University and took her teaching certification classes at the University of Minnesota. Majoring in business, history, and English literature, she has been (at various times) a junior high school teacher, wine sales manager, and stockbroker.
